Filthy, matted Persian cats are the breeding stock for those adorable pure-bred kittens people want.

You probably can't tell by looking, but what seems to be a pile of matted and discarded fur is actually several Persian cats huddled together in their outside pen for warmth. Their coats are filthy and "felted" so badly that the animals have trouble walking; they are all fed from the same central feeder; their eyes are so infected that they can hardly see. And they are living on the bare dirt, OUTSIDE year around, in a chicken-wire pen.

BUT THAT'S OK, our legislators tell us. It must be OK, because the last piece of legislation considered by both the Wisconsin Senate and Assembly (SB-308 / AB-567: "Wisconsin Dog Purchaser Protection Act") included only dogs, NOT other pet animals such as birds, rabbits, other small mammals -- or cats.

IS THAT OK WITH YOU?

IT'S NOT OK WITH US!

Can one voice make a difference?

Most emphatically, YES! Especially when combined with many other "one voices." A Wisconsin legislator once told us, "When one person writes me about a particular topic, I read it. When ten people all write me about the same topic, I figure I need to listen to them and look into it!"

From time to time, we ask our supporters to take immediate action on something -- from attending a Round Table Discussion or helping us protest at a mill auction to sending an email to their state legislators.

Sometimes, there are several "Action" items occurring at once, and sometimes, there are none at all. The links at left will keep you up on what's going on, what we need you to do, and in many cases, what happened after the "Action" period expired.

"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his NOT understanding it."
                — Upton Sinclair

"As taxpayers and voters remind our legislators exactly WHO pays their salaries, perhaps understanding will come."
